Fasteners in locomotive traction motor gear cases are subject to some of the highest vibration and thermal cycle environments that can be found in the railroad industry. Loosening or failure of gear case fasteners can result in loss of lubricant, and very expensive damage to gears, bearings, and castings. Stage 8 has been providing gear case locking systems for over 15 years, without a single report of failure of the locking system.
